Our story began in 1979 when Billie Parkin, later known by so many as Mama B, stumbled across Amelia Island and instantly felt something special about it. The quiet beauty, endless shoreline, and laid-back beach town feeling made it feel like home before it even was. Drawn to the island’s natural charm and slower way of life, she moved her family here, planted roots, and opened the original "Driftwood Beach Shoppe" at the age of 49.

Mama B was the kind of person who made people feel welcome the moment they walked through the door. She was strong, creative, fiercely independent, and deeply connected to the people and community around her. What she created was never just a store. Driftwood became a place filled with stories, friendships, beach days, and memories that families carried with them year after year. With her love for art, people, and the coastal lifestyle woven into every part of the shop, Mama B built something that felt genuine, personal, and full of life. Her spirit continues to shape Driftwood today and remains at the heart of everything we do.

Today, Driftwood remains family owned and operated by her son, Peter, alongside the rest of the Parkin family. While the shop has grown over the years, the heart of it has stayed the same. We still believe in treating people like family, creating genuine connections, and being a part of the community that has supported us since the very beginning.

Driftwood has always been more than just a store to us. We feel incredibly proud of the little shop Mama B started back in 1979 and grateful to continue carrying on the family legacy she created over 45 years ago.
